About Dr. Roney

Dr. Heather Roney grew up on a small hobby farm in Clarkston, Michigan where, thanks to her involvement in 4-H, her interest in a veterinary career blossomed.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, followed by her DVM, from Michigan State University. During her time as a Spartan (Go Green!), she was involved dairy fertility research and served as Barn Coordinator for the college’s Vet-A-Visit youth program. In her final year at the College of Veterinary Medicine, she completed externships in Advanced Equine Medicine, as well as Equine Reproduction at both Michigan State and Colorado State University.

Dr. Roney’s special focus is in equine medicine and reproduction, as well as preventative care for horses of all ages. Having previously cared for her own aging horses, she has a personal passion for ensuring a comfortable quality of life for “senior” horses.

'Communication is key. My number one priority is knowing my client's goals for their animal's health, so we can work together to stay on that path.'

Dr. Roney also maintains an interest in the impact of public policy on local animal owners and farmers. Before graduating, she participated in the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) Legislative Fly-In in Washington D.C., and also served as a fellow on staff with the United States Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. In 2014, she participated in the Smith-Kilborne Program studying foreign animal disease on Plum Island and completed externships with the AVMA’s Governmental Relations Division, as well as the Michigan Department of Agriculture.

Outside of her professional duties, Heather enjoys spending time with her husband, James, and their cat, Haymitch. Together, they enjoy camping, fishing, and hiking, and playing their ever-expanding board game collection with friends.
