About Dr. Secor

Dr. Karen Secor is an essential part of Fredonia’s doctor lineup and a partner at the FVC. With her 30+ years of experience in the field, Dr. Secor has provided skillful care for hundreds of pets, and farm animals throughout her career.

Animals have always been a part of Karen’s life. Dr. Secor grew up on a small farm in Washington county where pigs, horses, cows, sheep, chickens, dogs and occasional wandering barn kittens all found a way to coexist. These roots are obvious to her clients who appreciate her practical yet compassionate attitude and hard work ethic.

That hard work ethic would serve her well in her veterinary studies. Karen was among the pioneering females who achieved their doctorates often while being the only female in their class. Dr. Secor completed her undergraduate from UW Madison, and then received her DVM from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

When Karen isn’t working with animals, she enjoys keeping herself active. Some of her hobbies include going biking or running. In general, Karen tries to keep herself outdoors whenever possible. Karen has taken over her family’s farm, which does not currently house farm animals, but has functioned as a rehabilitation site for alpacas and emus in the past.

After a lifetime of caring for animals on the farm, Karen is especially attuned to the needs of her patients. She is one of the most experienced small ruminant doctors and general surgeons in the area.
